OM150 & OM250M
After the success of the revised OM100 & 200M Suzuki continued to
develop and improve the Omnichord with two new models, the OM150 and
OM250M. The major changes are updated sound engine with new voices
and styles and both models now have 84 chords.
Sadly, the Sci Fi theme has disappeared altogether. The brochures and manuals are far more sensible, with the exception of the 'Omniguy' on the brochure front who has been hanging around since the OM-84. And some say clowns are scary!
One welcome change is an "OM-27" mode. Selecting the 'new' Omnichord Voice button not only results in a very familiar strumplate sound, the chord buttons make the good old Omnichord drone. Selecting a rhythm or another voice button automatically cancels it.
Oh, there is now a demo button :-/ So you can strum along to 'When The Saints Go Marching In' in the style of Country, Bossanova, or Rock..and whatever other rhythms are on the Omnichord. Hmmm, we thought Omniguy was irritating!
OM150
The OM150 (replaces the OM100) is finished in beige and now
introduces 84 chords across 36 chord buttons (following in the
footsteps of the OM84 and OM200M). New SonicString voices as follows:
"Omnichord, Guitar, Harp, Banjo, Strings, Piano, Organ, Celeste,
Marimba and Steel Drums". All stumplate voices can be used with
variable Sustain and/or vibrato and the Instant Off Button is still
located in the familiar location top right of the strumplate. The
styles are also improved, Disco and Bossanova are dropped, being
replaced by Latin, Swing and Rock III.
OM250M
The OM250M in Dark Grey replaces the OM200M. It has all the
features of the OM150, with the addition of piano keyboard (via the
colour coded chord buttons) with Octave shift with a range from C-G2
with new voices (Organ, Banjo, Trumpet, Harmonica, Piano, Electric
bass, Human Voice, Marimba, Calliope and Steel Drums).
The Chord Computer first introduced with the OM84 is included with a 120 step capacity. The Rhythm section is identical to the OM150 with the addition of a Drum Fill
Like the OM200M, the OM250M is MIDI equipped, with Strumplate transmitting on channels 1, Bass on 2, Chord on 3. Chord Plus is on channel 4 and melody keyboard is channel 5. The Omnichord doesnt't transmit much else other than Control Change 64: Sustain on channel 1 only. Instant Off send 'All Note Off' command.
